HOTSPOTS OF COSTA RICA
20 – 26 /11/2022 : the social program is a 7-day organized trip where adventure, animals and culture (and spirituality) come together. This social program will unfortunately be limited to a maximum of 30 people.
The itinerary and stages of the trip, the price and the conditions of sale will be communicated later.
Day 1: May 20: San José / Tortuguero (Caribbean coast)
Morning: Early departure (approximately 06:15) by minibus on a group excursion to the Tortuguero National Park. Passage through the Braulio Carrillo National Park, which offers superb views of the cloud forest. Breakfast on the way and continuation to Puerto Limon. At Caño Blanco you will board a motorized canoe and take the coastal canal which crosses the region from south to north. Along the way, you will discover the flora, the dense and luxuriant forest, and the fauna of the region: monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, sloths, toucans, parrots and many sea birds….
Noon: Arrival at destination around 12:30 p.m. to enjoy lunch.
Afternoon: Quick visit to the Caribbean village of Tortuguero and its small museum dedicated to the Turtle. At dawn you will go on a private walk along the beach in search of sea turtles for a possible observation of their laying.
Evening: At the end of the day you will enter the Park for dinner and spend the night there.
Day 2: May 21: Tortuguero / Jardin de la Paz / Vara Blanca
Morning: After a cup of coffee, morning guided boat trip on secondary canals to observe wildlife as nature awakens.
Breakfast at the lodge and return by boat to the landing stage of Caña Blanco where your driver and your guide await you for the continuation towards Vara Blanca.
Afternoon: Visit of « la Paz Waterfalls Garden », a wonderful natural park and wildlife rescue center.
Evening: Dinner and night in Vara Blanca.
Day 3: May 22: Vara Blanca / Poas Volcano / La Fortuna: introduction to volcanology.
Morning: Discovery of the Poas volcano. With its 2700 m altitude this volcano is reputed to have the largest crater in the world (1.5 km in diameter and 300 m deep) and releases active fumaroles and « geyser » type eruptions.
Afternoon: Arrival at San Carlos Valley where stands the majestic silhouette of the Arenal volcano (1600 m), one of the most active in the world, whose perfect cone emerges from the clouds. Since its explosive awakening on July 29, 1968, it has been producing constant lava flows, which is why volcanologists have been studying it carefully for more than 25 years.
Dinner and night in a charming hotel.
Day 4: May 23: Arenal Volcano / Lake Arenal / Cañas / Monteverde
Morning: Breakfast at the hotel. 2-hour walk in the Arenal National Park in the company of a specialized local guide, to discover contrasting landscapes, inhabited by a rich and varied fauna.
Departure towards the area close to the active sector of the Arenal volcano, to discover recent lava flows and the crater less than 2 km away. You will then follow Lake Arenal, which offers beautiful perspectives, to continue towards the Pan-American road in the direction of Cañas. On the road you will visit “Las Pumas”, a wildlife rescue center.
Noon: Stop for lunch at the pleasant RINCON COROBICI located by the river, the ideal setting for a relaxing first part of the afternoon, with its bird watching areas, gardens, walks along the river and its mini zoo.
Afternoon: Continue the journey towards Monteverde.
Evening: Dinner and night at Monteverde.
Day 5: May 24: Monteverde
Morning: Breakfast at the hotel, and morning full of activities (your choice):
– The Sky Walk: 1.8 km long path on 5 suspension bridges, in the forest, at a height varying from 21 to 37 m above the ground.
– The Sky Trek: to explore the treetops by gliding (under the guidance of experienced guides) along cables, from platform to platform built at the top of the trees.
– Visit of the serpentarium.
Afternoon: Pedestrian visit of the private reserve of Monteverde, by the many paths of the park, to discover there the richest and the most complex humid tropical forest in the world, which shelters:
Evening: Dinner and night at Monteverde.
D 6: May 25: Monteverde / Punta Leona / Manuel Antonio
Morning: Breakfast at the hotel and departure to join the Panamerican in the direction of Punta Leona. Stop in Tarcoles around 10:30 a.m. and boat trip on the Rio of the same name and in the surrounding mangroves to observe impressive crocodiles (some weigh up to 600kg) and the many migratory birds that come to rest there.
Afternoon: Continuation towards Quepos, a small port and arrival at Manuel Antonio, a famous resort on the Pacific coast, at the end of the afternoon.
Evening: Installation, dinner and night at Manuel Antonio.
D 7: November 26: Manuel Antonio / San José
Morning: Breakfast at the hotel then visit the Manuel Antonio National Park which is one of the most visited in the country, because it is very popular for its many varieties of corals, crustaceans and fish, its birds and 109 species of mammals including “white-faced monkeys” and sloths, numerous iguanas and small deer… in a particularly pleasant environment; the park forms a peninsula whose paths run along the sea.
